Industrialization vs. Environment – What is of utmost need?

The process of industrialization has gained much momentum during the past several centuries. A large number of new technologies providing new capabilities to the human beings have become available. In several cases, the human beings have used these additional capabilities for manipulating natural resources for their own benefit but at the expense of other things. At the same time, it cannot be denied that technological advancements also requires that human beings should achieve a better understanding of the world and it also provides increased potential for doing good and for manipulating things in a way which is beneficial for our planet. Do India really need more AIIMS and IIT’s?

Do India really need more AIIMS and IIT’s (Indian education – Quality vs Quantity analysis)

Although the recent announcement that the government will be opening more IIT’s and IIMs appears to be pleasant for the students looking for admissions in these reputed institutions, many believe that the reality is not very pleasing for these students. It is argued that by setting up new premier institutions, the image’ of these premierinstitutions may be jeopardized. Although at present there are 16 IITs and 13 IIMs, most of the students want to take admissions in the institutionsthat are at the top only. There is a widespread belief the recently set up institutions do not have the required infrastructure as a result, it is doubtful if the move to have more such institutions can be considered as a wise move.

Should military training be made compulsory for all?

It has been argued by many that compulsory military training could help the young adults by keeping them out of trouble and also teach them respect for authority and discipline. In this regard, it has also been argued that in the current times of great uncertainty, a standing army could be helpful for any country which can be called in case of emergency. On the other hand, the opponents of compulsory military training argue that it could result in an unfair treatment of contentious objectors and it also costs a long and is also difficult to implement.
